THE FESTIVAL

The festival we didn’t know we needed

Screenwriting may be the most influential artistic practice of the new century. It sits at the center of film production and at the creative core of the serial storytelling revolution that has reshaped the global audiovisual landscape.

And yet, for most audiences, it remains largely invisible - a treasure hidden in plain sight.

While directors and actors are widely recognized, the names of the great writers behind many of the world’s

most beloved films and TV series are still rarely known, with only a few exceptions.

A famous Hollywood producer once said: “Screenwriters are the most influential people in the industry - as long as you don’t let them know!”

This contradiction is striking: screenwriters shape the stories that define our collective imagination, yet their

names rarely receive the same recognition audiences reserve for other creators.

That gap creates an opportunity for something that does not yet exist, but has the potential to spark strong interest

across the international industry:

A Festival dedicated to Screenwriting

Script Fest will be a film festival in every sense of the word - with screenings, awards and public events - but with one crucial difference: the works will be presented not by directors, but by the screenwriters themselves. The writers will guide audiences through the narrative architecture of the films and series in competition, sharing how the stories were conceived and built.

This festival aims to bring together a national and international audience around the craft of storytelling for

the screen - both film and television. The program will feature category awards, post-screening conversations with writers, and a training program for students - BrainStorming - including workshops and masterclasses led by the festival’s guests.

Nothing like this currently exists in Italy. This gives Script Fest the opportunity to establish a distinctive position within the national landscape from its very first edition, with awards for the best screenplays of the year alongside screenings, masterclasses and educational activities.

The first edition will focus on Italian productions for the awards, with the ambition of expanding toward an international dimension in the years to come.

The first edition will take place in Bra from April 16 to 19, 2026 and will focus on Italian film and television productions released in Italy between January 1 and December 31, 2025.

The Script Fest Awards will include six categories:

Best Original Screenplay for an Italian Drama Film

Best Adapted Screenplay for an Italian Drama Film

Best Original Screenplay for an Italian Comedy or Musical Film

Best Adapted Screenplay for an Italian Comedy or Musical Film

Best Screenplay for an Italian Drama Series or Miniseries

Best Screenplay for an Italian Comedy or Musical Series

The awards will be decided by a Script Academy made up of all professional Italian screenwriters, the combined membership of WGI and 100autori. Writers will be voted  on by their peers, with no conflicts of interest. The full membership will vote online for the best screenplays across all categories, from all projects released in Italy in 2025, with voting closing in March 2026.

The six winning works will be screened at the Festival, followed by masterclasses with their writers. In addition, an internationally renowned screenwriter will

be invited to Bra to meet the festival audience. Dedicated screenings and masterclasses will be held in their honor, and they will receive the Script Fest Lifetime Achievement Award.
